Welcome and intro of board members by president Chad Herrick, Mike Chappo, Vice President; Steve Fisher Treasurer; Sue Ward Secretary; Ed Bernice Director; Tom Martin Director. Thanks to Tom for being our Treasurer for many years.
Treasurer's Report: Steve reported approximately $4303 currently in account. About 48% of people have paid dues. Please send $25 to pay 2024 dues to our Treasurer, checks Fenton’s Pine Lake Association, 5068 Island View, Linden 48451
Thanks to those who paid their dues for the support of our lake!
We talked about how to get more homeowners involved and raise money for more community functions. Make a list of ideas for functions to get people involved and utilize our dues.
Communication:
We will have news about the lake, Events, Pictures. This will be great for communicating. You can send the board a message and pictures through this site. We will be posting members in good standing that have paid dues this year also.
Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/fentonpinelakehomeowners
Pine Lake brochure: We are updating with contact names, Michigan Law, Fenton Township Law and General information, events, and will get that to all homeowners.
Fish Stocking: We stocked Black Crappie and Perch last fall. We will plan on another stocking in the fall of 24. We budget about $1300 for fish stocking each year. In the past we have had hybrid blue gill, walleye etc.
There is a free fishing weekend June 8 and 9th.
2024 Activities: Fishing tournament July 27nd There are prizes in different categories. Stay tuned for details and to register. Tom Martin and Todd coordinators. Look for signs in the subs.
Poker Run and Pontoon Picnic: July 27nd. Beginning at 3 pm, there will be docks on the lake with a Tiki Umbrella where you can pick up a card to get a 5-card poker hand.
Afterward, around 4pm, boats will tie together on the lake and prizes for best poker hands. Bring a dish to share.
Looking for another volunteer to hand out cards on the docks. So far, we have 4 people.
New Community Activity:
We are having a Community Picnic Open House! Scheduled for Saturday, August 24th
It will be on the property off Harp drive. Bring your own chairs and come join us for community fun. The association will provide some food and we can get together as lake homeowners. More details to follow. Dawn and Tim will help coordinate. Let us know if you want to volunteer to assist with this picnic.
Ideas for other lake activities:
Small fireworks display. Have to check on legality and cost of this.
Have a grand parent’s day and get kids out on the lake.
Decorate Boats: Boat parade maybe around Labor Day
Dumpster cleanup, we will contact Fenton Township and coordinate for fall, dumpster provided by Township. Also check into cost of a 2nd dumpster for another time of year.
Weed control: The board had Lake Pro get the permit for weed control early in season, they did a lake survey May 1 to identify treatment areas and we had a treatment for algae as well as the other weeds on May 6. Next treatment will be determined based on weed growth etc.
We have a 3-year contract with current company, Lake Pro, and are in year 3. The Township collects the tax for each homeowner on the lake. We need to make a recommendation to the township to continue another 3-year contract or get bids for a new company. Most homeowners at the meeting thought Lake Pro is now doing a good job, much better than old company and taking care of weeds effectively.
If homeowners have any issues, they should contact a board member.
We have mainly a kettle lake from natural runoff with a few springs. Nutrients go into the lake and mud builds up and muck. When you water out of the lake that takes our water level down. It not necessary to water lawn every day.
“A combination of warm temperatures, sunlight, and nutrient-rich waters can cause blue-green algae to reproduce rapidly, or "bloom." If you want to read more about this: https://www.canr.msu.edu/news/blue-green-algae
Boat Access and Easement:
After investigation and research, there is not a way to launch your boat with any previous ways. Please seek alternatives. Ask a friend or neighbor if you can use their yard or pay them to launch your boat.
Harp Easement is deeded to some owners on Harp Drive. This is only for those deeded owners. This is for ingress and egress travel and cannot be used for dockage, permanent boat moorage, storage of equipment etc. The deeded owners said they would have a liability issue and since it’s a shared easement, they cannot allow others to use the easement.
Homeowners Responsibilities:
Review of Lake rules: No Speeding, Fishing Rules, need to have MC numbers on boats. Some concern over boats not being registered
.
Some boats have just been sitting there covered for years. Call ordinance at township about this.
For DEQ and permitting information 517-241-1554 or email DEQ-WRD-ANC@michigan.gov They should be contacted for permits for putting in sand etc.
If any landscaping or construction is being done, a barrier is required to be put up to prevent problems in the lake.
No raking leaves or putting grass clippings into the lake. The nutrient phosphorus from leaves fuels the growth of algae, including toxic algae. Also leaves, grass clippings and similar debris add nutrients to the water that use up precious oxygen as they decompose. There should be a buffer to keep Fertilizers out of lake. 50 feet from shoreline for property owner fertilizer application, 25 feet for Commercial Fertilizer application. See Ordinance Fenton Township #545.
If any problems on the lake, get Boat registration MC numbers, video the problem, if something actively happening can call 911 or Sheriff’s office there is a Marine Patrol out on weekends mainly that can come out and talk to the person. There were reported issues of a boat coming too close to other boats and harassing boats.
Genesee County Sheriff Non-emergency # 810-257-3422; Marine Division 810-257-3176
The orange buoy is marking large underwater rocks in the lake.
Board Elections: Chad Herrick is reelected President and Sue Ward, Secretary for 2-year term.
General Info:
There is a house on the lake that is a VRBO (Vacation Rental By Owner) and the township is considering the rules for these short term rentals and will determine what can and cannot do. Right now, they are not allowed to use and power boats, only kayaks or canoes.
There is a concern about some mud and debris draining into the lake near Whittaker and county park building. Homeowners can and should call drain commission or DEQ to have them fix this.

Keep doors locked and outside lights on. Call 911 for any suspicious activity. They are wearing masks.
